Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

Background

Georgia Tech recruits around 30-45 teaching assistants every semester to teach classes of size 30-40 students. These TAs help in reducing the teaching load of the professors/instructors who can sometimes teach classes of 200 students or more. Undergraduate TAs are students who have proven exceptional skills/level of knowledge in undergraduate Mathematics courses in Georgia Tech and have a passion for teaching. I taught Math 1501/Calculus 1 for three semesters

In my first semester in fall 2011, I taught a class of 33 students under Dr. Klara Grodzinsky
In my second semester I taught a class of 32 students under Dr. Michael J. Evans.
In my third semester, I taught a class of 30 highly motivated students under professor, Dr. Kelly Bickel.

My Role

Teaching two 50-minute recitation sessions each week.
Grading homework, quiz/exam papers, and projects for the lead instructor.
Proctoring for all the exams/quizzes (including proctoring and grading during the final exams week).
Holding office hours (at least one hour per week).
Attending organizational meetings with the lead instructor.
Attending the CETL/Mathematics TA Orientation.
Enrolling in CETL 2000 MAT, TA Development Seminar.
